> MMANA-GAL uses the older less accurate NEC2 code than what the antenna was designed with.

…which can be easily improved by changing the director array…. I believe that was said about this design, too:

> The antenna design has apparently been optimised using software that uses the more accurate 4nec2 engine. Sometimes, I compare with results from Brian Beezley's optimizer. No, I do optimizations manually to get a better understanding of what is happening. > Have you tried the MMANA-GAL optimiser? I was keen to use MMANA-GAL as others in my club use it. However, the interconnecting short folded dipole parts should have equal diameters, odd otherwise. Including a closely spaced first director can provide very interesting advantages. Antiference is using this in some UHF designs, but the other way around. Siemens used this in their band 3 antennas, where one part is much wider than the other one where the feed point is. The actual folded dipole has actually got different diameters in other places too.Ī folded dipole with unequal conductor diameters can provide different impedance multiplication ratios. Nothing in this design should cause any problems for MMANA-GAL. All parameters seem to benefit from this, and the element currents look healthier. As for the antenna design, it would work better with the feed point at the front part of the folded dipole, and the dipole widened to 0.91m. For automatic optimization programs, I would prefer the ones by Brian Beezley. I don't use the automatic optimization in MMANA-GAL myself. If you would like to manually experiment with designs using folded dipoles, or other connected element parts, be sure to check the "keep connected" box under Geometry. Your dipole uses different diameters for its parts, probably just a simple mistake. It is well centered, and does not get connected to the elements in MMANA-GAL unless you use dedicated end points at the intended connections. You could just as well use 400, 40, 2,1 for the auto segmentation parameters. Hi David, Your attached file has a few issues.
